THE BBT CROWNS A NEW CHAMPION!
BBT News and Updates
MAMER RUNS
THE STEPLADDER TO
CLAIM FIRST TITLE!
Quentin Mamer, a sophomore at Charis University in Missouri, is no stranger to tournament bowling. In fact, he quite the resume. Mamer already has multiple honor scores and tournament victories under his belt, but on Sunday, April 28th he added another title to his list of accolades.
Bowers Bowling Tour Champion.
Mamer made the cut to the top 16 in the "Smitty" formatted event averaging just over 230 at Derby Bowl, in Derby, Kansas. He then squeaked into the 4th spot of the stepladder finals, averaging over 240 and just barely edging out Wichita State senior Miguel Lopez by two pins. From there, the rest is history. Mamer defeated Top 16 leader Gil Sanchez of Mulvane, Kansas in the first round and edged into the finals by defeating WSU Alum and National Champion, Eric Gulbrandson. The final match was against Derby native, and former Newman University collegiate bowler Justin Gentry.
Mamer defeated Gentry in the finals to win the event and take home the $1000 First Place prize as well as the coveted BBT title. Mamer also will be awarded a ceremonial BBT Champions Polo and Star award prior to the next event. He traveled from the Kansas City metro area to compete in this event and plans to attend future BBT events. Mamer works at Summit Lanes in Lee's Summit, Missouri and lives in Pleasant Hill, Missouri. Wichita bowling legend and 2002 USBC Hall of Famer Mark Jensen topped a field of 38 on Sunday in the February installment of the Bowers Bowling Tour at The Alley Indoor Entertainment Center earning the $1000 top prize. Bowlers from across the Midwest, including both Newman and Wichita State, braved the cold weather and the snow to compete in the "Eliminator" format event. This tournament marks Jensen's 2nd BBT title - his last tournament victory was in 2012 at West Acres Bowl. Jensen averaged 222 over 8 games and defeated Shocker Bowler and former Junior Team USA member, Eric Gulbrandson and WSU student Eric Gentilella to take the title and the prize money. Mike Murtha and Holly Harris (pictured above) finished in fourth and fifth respectively. Below are the final results:

RECORD SNOW
STRIKES
WICHITA!
Beginning on Wednesday, February 20th through February 21st the Wichita metro area took a direct hit from a furious winter storm. The mega-storm blanketed the city with record-setting snowfall and halted traffic, leaving some motorists stuck or stranded. Some areas reported receiving as much as 15 inches of snow, the highest snowfall totals in nearly 50 years and the second largest winter storm on record. The winter weather shut down traffic, schools and almost all business on Thursday, including the city's 6 bowling centers and area universities. Roads were icy and travelling was difficult.
Wichita State Sophomore and Shocker Bowler Heather Melvin said she spent the day just relaxing and catching up on her studies. "I had a lot of catching up to do," Melvin commented - "so I took advantage of the days off bowling practice." Other BBT regulars spent the snow day outside playing, some even hosted a group snowball fight. "I did not partake in it, but there was at least 10 people," Melvin said. The storm has cleared out and the roads are now clear. Large piles of plowed snow are visible in nearly every part of the city, and the forecast doesn't include many above freezing temperatures in the next few days, so the snow is here to stay for awhile.
Bowers Bowling Tour Director Brian Bowers said, "It was a big storm. It won't threaten our scheduled weekend event at the Alley though." "I'm actually hoping it will encourage people to come out," he added. "Something to get out of the house for." As of this article - entries collected were comparable to past events. Another major winter storm is forecasted for Wichita on Sunday, but not until well after the BBT is over. "We aren't going to let a little snow slow us down," Bowers said. This weekend's tournament will be the 4th of 6 scheduled events this season. The final two events will be at Derby Bowl on April 28th and Seneca Bowl on June 16th.

HELMICK GRABS THE ALL EVENTS COMBINE
Matt Helmick and Shocker Bowling Alum Erik Gulbrandson were among the 7 BBT players to battle for the title of All Events Champion. It came down to the last game of qualifying, and Helmick edged Gulbrandson by less than 20 pins. Players paid an additional fee to be eligible for this special prize - Total pinfall from all 4 WSOBB events were tallied, and Helmick came out on top. Helmick also finished the Main Event in 3rd place. (Photo courtesy of Scott Light, BBT Photographer)
